Car Items

Postby Giantcod on Tue Apr 06, 2010 9:21 pm

We are looking to start a Car / Truck section. The Beijing RC show is coming up so it would be a good place to find the right stuff. The problem is I know nothing about RC Cars / Trucks so I need help knowing what to stock.
Any ideas posted here would be appreciated...

Hi Rob,
As a keen club carpet racer and a basher (thats car speak for mucking about non competetive driving) I can make one or two suggestions.

Racers are moving toward 2.4Ghz so the cheap 2.4 stick sets 2/3 chanel are proving a hit.
Personaly I am on the notification list for the Frsky 4ch receivers. When they are in I will be grabbing a Fut Module and a pair of 4ch RX.
Small receivers are the key for cars. We don't need 8 ch receivers :)

I have posted a sugestion on the normal thread for switches to plug into a Rx to switch on stuff.
Crawling is getting big, so switches will be great for spotlights etc.

You may want to look out for cool gadgets like winches. But I don't know how many you would be able to shift.
Stuff like that is available but usualy on US import so it may be the restriced availability and cost that is slowing the uptake.
You already do some car or car useable stuff so perhaps some cross reference pages on your already good site. Esp BL motors as they are in demand.

Main thing is to get the Cod out into the car community which might just be a few carefully placed posts on RCracechat or similar.

Thats a start. Now you have my brain engaged I may think of other stuff.

I am well out of touch with cars, but this would be a great opportunity to get back into them. The Radiolink 2.4Ghz would be an ideal candidate for cars. I am sure Rob you could get a good steering wheel/trigger 2/3 channel radio set.

I wonder if there are car kits, a bit like the heli 450, you know, basic chasis, gearbox, suspension, wheels/tyres. Then choose your motor/esc/battery combination, body shell perhaps and don't forget the bling!!!

See what you can turn up.

Don't forget AshleyLad that some of us old gits still like sticks. We can't get on with these new fangled wheel jobbies :)

You are right about the availability of car kits, they are available direct.
The one thing that has put me off is the spares availability.
A bit different with planes, they use more generic parts; whereas cars are a bunch of custom mouldings.
Would it be financialy viable for Rob to stock spares?

Closest aero analogy would be 'copters; but crash one of those and they are invariably totalled anyway.
If not on first impact, then the ensuing 'funky chicken dance' finishes them off.

Anyway to be more possetive what genre of car do you fancy?

There are some nice 1/10 4wd touring cars available at a good price as they are popular in Japan especially in Drift spec.
Or how about a 1/10 brushless truck. Short course is getting popular what with the Yanks going bonkers for CORR trucks.
Real red neck racing Supercross course with 500Hp pickup trucks :o (checkout http://www.torcseries.com you may see the appeal)

Wow thanks for the link. I like sticks too. Still got my Tamiya Frog original from 1984. Was hoping to get my youngest son interested. Touring cars always look good. Multi terrain a must also.

3 channel RX would be nice to enable lighting kits I am planning to make , headlights, tail-lights, stop-lights, under-car lighting BLING!! Emergency vehicle lights..............................

Let's see what Rob can turn up.

If you have any links for basic kits post a link here for all to see.

Thanks again.
If cars are custom builds is it only worth stocking upgrade parts, such as motors, lipos, escs and a few extras?
Wheels, lights, winches, etc? Can you give me some links as to what is good out there if possible?

hi, I have just joined so I can post some suggestions for you it you are still thinking of getting some car stuff. I have a traxxas stampede and rustler, here are my suggestions

#1- brushless motors (between 2000-700KV) and ESC's (18-150amp brushless). mainly 36mm size but perhaps down to 130 size also for 1/36th 1/24th scale cars like xmods, losi mini/micro t's, koyhso mini-z etc
http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... de_version)
http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... v_Inrunner

#2-hardcase lipo like this http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... duct=10098 these batterys are great, i have 5 already, they are the same size as a 6cell nimh/nicd pack so fit all cars like that! i recommend them to everyone. Also cheap lipo monitor like http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... Monitor_2S

#3- a 2/3 channel transmitter and receiver like http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... h_Tx_&_Rx_
so good in a car or boat

#4- perhaps a cheaper charger? like http://hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh ... ccessories Yours is good but could this still be cheap from you?

All ways nice to have a chose of motors, ecs's and radio gear 8-)

I use hobbyking but I hate the waiting like everyone else, only thing is there prices are so good, but I notice you seem to stock a lot of the same things ;)
UK supply would be so good!
Also make a car section with things like the esc's motors servos wire and connectors

Hi Rob,

Only just got my head around this RC Forum thingy and hope I can be of help playing mostly with wheels on the ground.

I am one of those backyard bashers who would probably already own car/truck kits having found a shop selling one cheap being last years model. I would be looking for upgrade parts like Brushless Motors (Hi and Low Kv), light and small lipos which you already stock but possibly a hard case option in the popular sizes? Speed Controllers again which you already stock but maybe an optional one for 'Rock Crawlers' and scale builders to compliment the slower torquer motors (Sensored?) Ball Races in the regular sizes might be good as upgrades along with other things that wear out like lexan body shells and wheel/tyre combinations to suit the latest trend (Touring Car/buggyies etc).

These are the sort of things that I would be looking for; generic rather than specific parts for kits!
